4 Hero & Bugz In The Attic, 2 sets of musical explorers that I could listen to day & night. Play With The Changes & Back In The Doghouse respectively, are still on regular rotation in my ears more than a year after their release. Dego & Kaidi Tatham's latest chapter in the collaborative journey that is 2000 Black, has also joined that club. These guys are still setting standards after 20 odd years in the game. There's a reason that I never fail to be disappointed by a single release involving any of these guys. They have a knack of sticking to a winning formula without sounding like their standing still. There is more of an electronic feel to A Next Set Of Rockers than on previous releases. I usually like a more soulful approach but such is the quality of what's on offer it is very easy to overlook. They've partnered their soundscapes with just the right slew of guests, with Nadine Charles, Lady Alma, Ferraz, Rasiyah, Ty, Vanessa Freeman & Face provide the vocal muscle. Varying from above average to superb, the variety of the artists themselves is more than enough to keep those who are silly enough to take time to get into the beats occupied. If that's the case for you then you're not worthy. Genius music.

Why does a lady as talented as Marsha, have to resort to mixtapes. Is Dre that slow (or just plain wasteful) that major R'n'B/Soul talents signed to the label (whether she will be for much longer is anyones guess). The up side is the whole thing is produced by Focus & he kills it. So does Marsha.

Hell yeah, finally I've found some serious new UK talent. Essensual (I'm 50/50 about the name), comes to the fore with an eclectic collection of songs for this ep. There is a funk edge to the EP & there is definitely something of the Robin Thicke about his style. Check it out for yourself.

Got this EP in the mail. Damn Iman you got skills. A sultry voice & some awesome soundscapes. Some original, some not but when you count Dilla & Nicolay among the selected beats, who the hell cares. Not only that but she sounds even better when there aren't any drums behind her. Not many artists about at the moment that can manage that. And apparently part 2 is gonna be a full album. Hurry it up.

As the Clipse would say, Hot Damn! (check the remix). This was sat on my window ledge for about a week before i finally got round to listening to it. This is what Hip Hop/Soul is supposed to sound like. Hard drums, Deep yet smooth b-lines & powerful emotive vocals. If Mary J. sung over these beats, we would all be hailing an epic return. As it is, many of us out there will never know this album exsists. Which would quite simply, be a disgrace. All the best elements of RnB are incorporated somewhere on this disc. What is it with me being late on all these great albums lately. Anyway, needless to say this now takes pride of place in my annual favs list and will make an appearance on a post on the subject. My one sour note is I now have to wait until the 1st album (Have a Cup of Green Tea Dosage I: Shades of Green) is delivered. Cot Damn!
